I love you daddy…

Father and Son

(cat stevens-Yusuf Islam)

Father
Its not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
Youre still young, thats your fault,
Theres so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy,
To be calm when youve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything youve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
Its always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father
Its not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
Youre still young, thats your fault,
Theres so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.
(son– away away away, I know I have to
Make this decision alone – no)
Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
Its hard, but its harder to ignore it.
If they were right, Id agree, but its them you know not me.
Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
(father– stay stay stay, why must you go and
Make this decision alone? )

Father and Son…

I miss you daddy…^__^

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

The Brand New Sins..

I forgot when the exact time I saw the article in yahoo news told me about the Brand New Sins released by The Vatican for the Catholic believers. One of the new sins is damaging the environment. This is a very nice release sides to environment and human kind. Isn’t it!

And on the other day, I read the March edition of TIME magazine. I found the similar article on the last page of the magazine.

The first passage was very interesting.

The New Road to Hell. The Vatican reflects on its mortal sins for the modern age. Want Salvation? Pick up your trash

These are part of those brand new sins: Genetic Modifications, Human Experiment such as cloning, polluting the environment, causing social injustice, causing poverty, becoming obscenely wealthy, taking drugs.

Wow.. Those were so specific!! Cool…Vatican seems keep their eyes on such world’s problems and those causes. Very nice job.

Actually, I don’t really understand how many kinds of sins are there in Catholic’s believer, and I’m not going to talk about it, too.

I just wanna share something about my thought after I read those articles (from yahoo news and TIME magazine). I thought about one notion. How about in my religion? What is the definition of sins in Islam actually? If the religion is established by God, why can we add many varieties of sins, like what Vatican did? If so, it means human take part in God’s power, doesn’t it?! By our intelligence, we will quickly response, that religion which adds so many brands new sins is not yet the perfect religion, isn’t it? Because that religion’s teaching cannot cope with the world’s movement.

Hmm…Doesn’t it interesting…..Let’s talk about sins in Islamic point of view. How Islam teaches us about this notion in such a beautiful way.

Let’s refer our discussion with Hadits Arba’in An-Nawawi #30 :

On the authority of ABu Tha’laba al-khushani Jurhum ibn Nashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) said:

Allah the Almighty has laid down religious duties, so do not neglect them; He has set boundaries, do not over step them; He has prohibited something, so do not violate them; about some things He was silent – out of compassion for you, not forgetfulness-, sp seek not after them. (A good Hadits related by Ad-Daraqutni and others)

[Abu Tsa'labah Al-Khusyaniy Jurtsum bin Nasyur ra. berkata, Rasulullah saw bersabda,

Moreover, we have another Hadits narrated by Imam Muslim.

On the authority of An Nawwas bin Sam’an may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) said:

“I asked to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH – peace be Upon Him-) about the righteous deed and the fallacious one. And Prophet Muhammad said:

Righteous deed is noble character and sin is anything that clutter in your mind, in fact you don’t like it if other people know about it (Narrated by Muslim # 2553)

Isn’t it very simple?! Sins are everything that hanging in your mind and you feel uncomfortable when others know about it.

Actually, in order to be honest to ourselves is very difficult, isn’t it! It is all about our heart’s speaking. Whether what we’ve done was sin or not. We need to continuously cleaning up our heart so that we’ll able to recognize it.

My point is -from presenting those two Hadits above- Islam has already defined what is Sin in a very general way. It can cope to every situation and every stage of world’s development. We do not need to redefine it anymore. We don’t have to discuss whether abortion is kind of a sin or not. Just ask your heart!! Or we shouldn’t doubt whether throw rubbish anywhere is kind of sin or not. Obviously, those makes us feel uncomfortable and we don’t want other people know about it, right!!?

Islam is the only perfect religion as Allah stated in Holy Quran Surrah Al-Maidah: 3:

“….This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed my Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your Religion….”

We, as the believer do not allow adding anything to what Prophet Muhammad brought and spread all over the world. It will be considered as bid’ah. And Bid’ah is refused. Islam is established by The Holy Quran and As Sunnah Rasulullah (PBUH). Moreover, it is a way of life (Minhajul Hayyah). Holy Quran is a Miracle from Allah SWT.

This proves show us that everything (definition of Islam, what is sin, etc) has already defined and completed in era of Prophet Muhammad. And it is valid until the end of the world. We, as the believer of Islam, only follow what Prophet Muhammad PBUH did in his lifetime through is As-sunnah. And always use Holy Quran as our manual book. InsyaAllah we will not get lost in our journey in this world.

May Allah always enlighten our path, through the straight way to His Jannah. Amiin

Wallahu’alam bishawab.

Along the willow street…

It only takes ten minutes for me to walk through this long road that connected Center Street and Weld Street. But sometimes three minutes is enough for me– if I did too many things at home before I left home– I must run as fast as I can to catch the 7.03 am-bus: the 36-Bus.

This 10-minutes road — I like to affix this quote to the willow street– always provide enough time for me to think about many things. Sometimes, there are too many things clutter in my head that I feel confused hehe..^__^ which theme should I write first on my blog.

Certainly, today I walked out of my 36-Bus at 11.40 am through the same road–The willow street–and I thought about one thing that I felt when I was teaching at the Holy Quran class this morning. It’s about the value behind the teaching process.

Well, I graduated from civil engineering. I didn’t have any experience in official or joined the special training in order to be a real teacher or a real instructor– I didn’t count my previous job as an assistant on some lectures while I was studying in ITB as the official one– But my grandfather was a teacher in official when he was alive. The only aim that I hope to reach when I applied to become a volunteer in MAS Quran Institute was I could always keep in touch with dakwah activity. I was feeling so empty when the first month I arrived in Boston without dakwah activity. I saw this opportunity when I visited MAS Boston website. Alhamdulillah.

That’s opportunity that Allah showed me bring me to the 500 Revere every week. Nice place near the coastline of North Boston. There’s always something that I get every time I go back from Revere–I called it Weekly Hikmah– Nice!!

I got one sense today about the value behind the teaching process. Teaching is such a difficult job, indeed.

Frankly speaking, Teaching, as I know, is different from knowledge transferring. I think everybody can do knowledge transferring –the firsthand of the information can easily transfer her/his knowledge– Just talk!! Sometimes the “Komunikator” (Person who gives the information) doesn’t care whether the “Komunikan” (person who is given information) fully understand about what she/he is talking about. They don’t care. The most important thing is the information spreads over another person.

Being a teacher is completely different–I think– It’s not all about knowledge transferring. It is true partially, but the main function of a teacher is educating student. It’s the most difficult part: educate students to have a good manner, show and teach them how to behave nicely to other peers, etc. It’s completely difficult.

Now I realized, I should say many thanks to my teacher in my kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, college, and many unofficial teachers along my live in this world. Many Thanks to you my teachers ^__^ !!

Today, it’s my turn!! My teachers have completed their job in part of my live very well. It’s my time to do the similar things as they did to me. Coz live is a matter of contribution to our community, right!! ^__^ we’re nothing when we don’t give what we have to others. I give [anything] thus I exist!!

Let’s go back to the main issue. The value of teaching process.

Its turn to my second month as volunteer in MAS, and I have experienced a bunch of children’s attitude. Mostly of them is the “creepy” one. Haha…It is !!

What should you do when the class began only five seconds and some of the children said “May I go to the toilet”. The others said “I didn’t eat my breakfast, I wanna eat something”, or “I don’t wanna recite the Quran, I’d like to coloring the paper”. How could you have a heart to reject their request as they are really cute children? That’s me, when I didn’t have enough information how to face what they want in the classroom. I allowed them to go to the toilet in the middle of the class, but finally every body wants to go out of the class too. Phuh…It needed a plenty of time to start the class again. ALhamdulillah games are really work for them =).

After that “disorder” class, I realized it was wrong, the thing that I allowed them to do what they want in the class. Thus I asked Raven, she has a lot experience in teaching students to perform yoga, about the question on how to face children who don’t want to start the class in manner. She said, “We know they are very cute but sometimes in order to educate them we should be firm in front of them. Don’t forget to make rules agreed by everybody. Each of them should respect to the rules that abide to every students.”

I know, I was too flabby. It won’t help the students to be good students. Thanks to Allah, He did tarbiyah to me in a very perfect way!! I learn from my fault.

Now I really understand, why Prophet Muhammad asked the believer to bases their good deeds on proper knowledge. And Hassan Al Banna put “Al-Fahmu” in the first list of Ushul Isyrin because with the proper “Al-Fahmu” we will be able to do “Al ‘amal” in the correct way.

I’d love make interpolation or forecast on everything I experienced. I’m quite imaginative type of person. Certainly with this “case”, in the way home when I was walking in the Willow street, I though about ” Maybe this is the way Allah prepare me to be a mother, later.. “. I like that. Preparation is always important, isn’t it!!

Finally, equally as I mentioned above that it is difficult to be a teacher, so do being a mother, or a father. Even harder, I think. A child is only a white clean paper. Her/his parents are the one that makes picture in it. What do you want to draw? It’s up to you. But I’m pretty sure that you will only “draw” the shape that you’ve known or what you have experienced on it. A pot only gives its content inside, doesn’t it?! If it is tea inside the pot, so does it will come out from the pot. Makes sense!!

So, as well as being a parents. No difference. If you want to have a blissful child, widen your knowledge from this moment of time. May Allah show all of you to become the best parents for your children later. Amiin (So do I, I hope to be the best mother for my children, too)

And for all of the parents in this world, I’d like to say thank you for your amazing effort to educate your children. It such a difficult but worthy time that you have invested for the sake of you children and dienul Islam. I’m sure Allah will prepare beautiful paradise for the mother and the father who did their job very well on teaching and educating them. Coz one of the best treasure after we died and buried 6 feet from the ground is a pious child. Only the Du’a of pious child that will bring peace and advantage for her/his parents in “Alam Kubur” and “Alam Mahsyar” later.

“Oh my Lord! Make me one who performs As-Salat (the prayer), and (also) from my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation.” [Q.S Ibrahim :40]

It was such an amazing time to know these families. I’ve learned a lot so far.

Thank you Oh Allah!! You gave such a blissful opportunity to me.

[QS.Al-Fath : 29]

Pewaris Sejati Pemikiran Bung Karno: Siti Fadilah Supari

Meruntuhkan Arogansi Amerika Serikat, Memenangi Peradaban Manusia Pewaris Sejati Pemikiran Bung Karno: Siti Fadilah Supari

Saatnya Dunia Berubah.

Oleh: Cardiyan HIS

Presiden RI, DR.

Siti Fadilah bergeming.

Ini memang “very very big business” dengan nilai ratusan milyar dollar Amerika Serikat. Keberanian Siti Fadilah Supari boleh jadi sangat mengusik dan sangat berpotensi mengancam kepentingan bisnis mereka.

Media dunia bahkan media Barat sangat mendukung tindakan Menteri Kesehatan RI ini. Majalah bergengsi the Economist (UK), 10 Agustus 2006 menulisnya dalam headline news: “For the sake of basic human interest, the Indonesia government declares that genomic data on bird-flu viruses can be accessed by anyone. With those words, spoken on August 3rd, Siti Fadilah Supari started a revolution that could yet save the world from the ravages of a pandemic disease. That is because Indonesia’s health minister has chosen weapon that may prove more useful than todays best vaccines in tackling such emerging threats as avian flu: transparency” .

Pewaris Sejati Pemikiran Bung Karno
Tetapi Siti Fadilah Supari dipastikan pewaris sejati pemikiran Bung Karno. Saya kutipkan kalimat dari buku tulisannya: “I told my self, How cruel it is when the suffering of some people being exploited and made into commodity by other people without ethics and without conscience. Moreover, the practice involving a world organization expected to do the duty of promoting global health. The wound in my heart split again, exerting an irresistible pain to the whole of my bodies and mind. This is the second time since the incident of Tamiflu in the beginning of the endemic. Unconsciously, my tears roled down my cheek and dropped to the surface of the desk of the front of me, the desk of Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. How useless I am
behind this official desk if I let the inequity keeping on ripping the right of living equally in the same world. Is it the neocolonialism, which was often mentioned by Soekarno? Is it exploitation de l’home par l’home? Is it neocapitalism? Or, is it imperialism? Should I ignore the situation by presuming that it is none of my business? Or, should I do something to stop it? But who am I? Oh, my GOD, am I just a Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, who for more than three decades has been wellknown as country with no courage to stand against the establishment, except under the administration of Soekarno?”.

Ir. Soekarno selalu bilang; “We are owner” SDA dan SDH, dan para kapitalis Barat adalah “You are contractor”.

“The Force behind Trends”

“The Force behind Trends”

Why did the New York City crime rate drop so dramatically in 1990s? Why did fax machines become popular so quickly in the United State? Author Malcolm Gladwell has explored the forces behind the sudden, swift transmission of ideas that change society, and he has found that new ideas and trends originate with three types of exceptional people : mavens, connector, and salesman.

In his book, The Tipping Point : How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, Gladwell profiles the three groups to explain how word-of-mouth epidemics take hold in society.

Gladwell says maven, the type of people who have specialize knowledge, are the first group of exceptional people responsible for trends. If you examine why you make certain decision, such as where to shop or dine or what movie to see, he says, you find that you are relying on the same person -a maven- over and over again for recommendations.

Connector, are the kind of people who know everybody, the handful of individuals in any social group who have extraordinary social ties. Gladwell explains that connectors are incredibly powerful in generating word-of-mouth epidemics because if they like something, they can spread information about it five or six times, much farther than the average person.

Once a new idea has spread, Gladwell attributes the ability to persuade people to adopt it to the third group, the salesman. Salesman have an extraordinary natural ability to win people over, to get hold on an idea and make it go a long way, he says.

—-
Now the question is where is our position?
Is it important to define our position in those three criterion above?
In my opinion, it is important to know our strength whether you are a maven, a connector, or a salesman. If you have all of them in your personality, please peruse yourself one more time. You must have the most dominant one.

This is important for the one who do not want to be like other common people.^__^

Actually everybody is special. They came to this earth with their own function. For instance, around 1775 in Boston, there was a man named Paul Revere. He was phenomenal for US citizen in the way through snatch independence from the British colonization. He was phenomenal because of his bravery to ride from Boston to Lexington, to warn citizen about the British battle plans to Boston.
The question is, why Revere was successfully warn people about the British battle plan. Why did people trust in his warn? What was the secret behind his success?
Gladwell said that new idea catch on partly because socially connected people spread them. Revere was a connector who knows everybody. He has a wide network of social connections- the type you always go for the latest news. In fact, Revere learned about the British attack from several sources. After so many rumors came his way, naturally he jumped on his horse and took his legendary ride to Lexington. And the rest history, literally. His news gave the colonial army time to organize and meet the enemy with fierce resistance.

So what is the answer of his success? Revere lived his entire life in Boston, so he knew everybody. He had a social network from childhood, from business, from community work. He made friends among his business patrons. He owned a lot of shop: silver shop, printing press, an arms factory, and dentistry. He belonged to almost every club and organization around. So Revere connected with people everywhere and he was very popular.

As you see, Revere had build such a wide circle of friends that he was the ideal person to spread a piece of critical news as far as possible. Consequently, Revere’s tale, his word-of-mouth epidemic, was a legend that we can take the pith from it.

I would rather be the Connector too..^__^ how about you?
